Off Road ONLY Powerchairs that wont fit in my van!  Or my house & wouldn't be welcome in the pub!

If you are looking for a more user friendly off road "everyday" do everything powerchair that can be used indoors too? Click here or here

Page 1 | 2      See the Detailed PowerChair Only Menu

The chairs on this page are for off road only use. Meaning that I cant drive them into the pub, my van and drive, my house or any shopping area. So you will need a farm or a trailer or van and take them somewhere like the beach? Horse trials, etc.

Dan A. made this for his son Ryan.

"I made this for my son using parts from an adult tuffcare chair".
"It has an all aluminium frame. (Manufacturers take note!!!) It has am/fm stereo with an aux channel to plug in an iPod or his portable PlayStation so the sound can run through the stereo speakers in the chair."

And in another mail:

> Wow!! I am very impressed with your work. What I have done
> is no match to
> your quality.

You have to be joking? Design and finish are different things.

> I find that the stock
> power chair I use does not do well on much of an incline.
> My son can drive
> it on the beach but very soft sand
> will make even the large tires loose traction on an incline.

(That's because the weight transfer as you climb a slope or accelerate moves backwards on to the rear caster.

Its also another reason I prefer rear drive cars, wheelchairs and motorcycles! Burgerman)

It is so good
> of you to offer people the how to for modifying their own
> chairs. Please enjoy these. I don't have any pics of the process of
> building them.

You don't appear to need help!  Shame about build photos!

See an all round movie of this off road powerchair (Right click and choose "save as" and download to your desktop)

> Dan

I really like this! May try to build something similar but small enough to get in my house and van.

That means total length no longer than me seated and width 26.6 inches maximum.

A few more pictures below. These are all built by Dan. He appears to have an older son too! (Last image)

And he's built a few others too......

Must be bored like me!

Larger wild powerchair  I like this one...  But how do you transport it?

Paintball Fun!

And of course the powerchair that's REALLY not welcome in the pub... Soden Gangs "Tank Chair".  This may seem a bit overpowering at first. But its got to be fun!

A guy in the UK sent me some photos (which I lost,,,) And then sent me some more different ones of it in bits.

It uses 4x Optima batteries (Yellow Top Deep Cycle) and a Penny and Giles control system. And relatively stock powerchair motors. It has a 120 amp R-Net controller and looks a real off road monster. This photo is old pre production model. The following ones are of one Soden dropped off at a customer in the UK personally.

The problem is I lost the emails due to a computer drive failing. So I only have the photos and no names. Please get back in touch whoever you were!

Production unit. Delivered by hand to a customer in the UK. Front - seat removed.

Side view of tracks. Much changed since the prototype at the top.

Front with seat. Cover removed.

R-Net controller.

Handle to "hold on" on steep downhill and rough ground. Or while driving over cars and through houses.

Another front view.

Controller module is just 120 amps. I would have wanted at least double that! Cant see how that can be enough.

And the other way around... It uses 4 large Optima D34 Deep Cycle 55Ah batteries (and it needs them!)

Tank chair front with seat removed again.

Motor and gearbox. Looks pretty standard like my wheelchair motors.

Again. Note brake removed. This was done for some overheating reason (incorrectly I suspect?) by the new owner. But I lost his email so cant post the other photos or the movie he sent me. Pleas get back in touch! I don't even have your name now

So this isn't for everyone then!  What it really needs is a 125cc petrol engine and a hydraulic drive system. Would be lighter and more powerful and faster. And about the same price. Don't see the point of battery power outdoors and this thing isn't going indoors anytime soon!
